SCOTT Hann has expressed his immense pride at Max Whitlock winning Olympic bronze in the all-around final in Rio.

Hann coaches Whitlock at the South Essex Gymnastics Club in Basildon.

And he was delighted to see the 23-year-old secure a third-place finish.

“It’s a fantastic result,” said Hann, speaking to Echosport from Brazil. “I’m so pleased and so proud.

“I’m over the moon and Max totally deserved it.

“He performed like a champion and so did (Kohei) Uchimora and (Oleg) Verniaiev.

“He couldn’t have beaten them, they were so good.”

Whitlock, who also won two bronze medals at the London 2012 Games, finished third with 90.641.

The imperious Uchimora triumphed with 92.365 while Verniaiev took second with 92.266.

But Whitlock and Hann faced a nervous wait after the final rotation before it was finally confirmed he had finished ahead of fourth-placed David Belyavskiy.

“There was a little shake at the end of the competition on floor which made us a little bit worried but he had done enough in the rest of the competition to secure the medal,” said Hann.

“It’s a fantastic achievement and I’m so happy.”
