COACH Scott Hann feels Max Whitlock’s double Olympic success has yet to sink in.

The Basildon based 23-year-old won the floor and pommel horse finals in Rio on Sunday.

And Hann insists he could not be any prouder of his superstar gymnast.

“I don’t think it’s really sunk in yet what’s happened but it’s been an amazing journey,” said Hann, speaking to Echosport from Rio.

“We went out quite relaxed for the floor final having already won the bronze in the all around. “We decided to go all out and see if we could scrape in there with another bronze.

“But low and behold he nailed it and ended up with a gold medal.”

However, Hann felt that put Whitlock under more pressure to perform in the pommel horse final which followed.

“We had to regroup and refocus and in a weird way it made us more nervous,” said Hann.

“But then the hero puts his arm up and delivers under pressure.

“All I can say is that I’m massively proud and I’m privileged to be part of it all.

“Max is a true credit to the club, the country and his friends and family.

“He deserves everything that will come his way.”
