BILLERICAY Town started their Eastern Regional Premier League season with a 4-1 home reverse against Haringey Borough.

The visitors got off to a good start and were quickly ahead. Town goalkeeper Robyn Strauss made a good save initially, but a Haringey player got in behind the full back to slot the ball home.

The second goal was scored soon after, but from what Billericay believed to be an offside position.

Lucy Watter pulled a goal back for Town and they were unlucky not to score the equaliser shortly after with the visiting goal keeper tipping a shot over the bar.

With Billericay edging their way back into the game, Haringey regained control with a sublime goal into the corner.

In the second-half, Billericay started well but an own goal effectively ended their chances of getting anything from the encounter.

And manager Kim Coster admitted she felt key decisions didn’t go her team’s way.

“It was one of those games we didn’t get the rub of the green,” said Coster. “I thought there were two good penalty shouts in our favour, based on the new laws, but nothing was awarded.

“I am not taking anything away from Haringey as they played very well and took their chances. My players battled to the end but it just wasn’t our day and we look forward to playing at Histon on Sunday.”
