MOST schools and colleges would have taken a break during the summer - but not Seevic’s sporting youngsters.

The Thundersley sixth form college had their athletes in for pre-season throughout the six-week break.

And head of Seevic Storm coach Craig Davidson was proud to see so many pupils in attendance.

“The numbers for pre-season have been fantastic,” said Davidson.

“Competing at the highest levels of college sport means it is vitally important that we start our preparations early and hit the ground running in September.

“The quality of the student athletes coming into Seevic Storm Sports Academies has been very impressive and bodes well for another successful year.”

Seevic enjoyed national success in rugby, netball, football and basketball last season.

And Davidson remains proud of their achievements.

“Last year was a tremendous year for both teams and individuals,” said Davidson.

“They excelled both regionally and nationally.”

Seevic are now keen to secure more success and their rugby side have enjoyed a fine pre-season.

The youngsters saw off Ivybridge 19-17 and Oaklands 36-5 in a triangular tournament held at Southend’s Warners Bridge base.

And Danny Cleare, head of Seevic College’s Rugby Academy was delighted to have triumphed.

“Results in pre-season aren’t always that important but this certainly has given us all a big boost because we were playing two very strong colleges,” said Cleare.

“It was a great fitness work-out which was the main goal and we’re making sure we have a really good pre-season.

“We’ve had a lot of success in the last couple of seasons but we haven’t always got off to the best of starts so that’s something we want to try and improve this year.

“We want to hit the ground running and with that in mind it’s been great to have the boys back together during the summer.

“They are all fit and ready for the year ahead so we’re looking forward to the games getting underway again.

“The numbers we’ve had in for training have been brilliant and it is important we start training early.

“We’re preparing for an exciting year of competitions and we want continue the success we have seen at Seevic by having another excellent season.”
