TYLER Humphreys has been chosen to represent his country at the upcoming Seven Nations diving competition.

The 14-year-old will travel to France next month to show why he is regarded as one of the country’s best up-and-coming divers.

Anthony Hill, who is Tyler’s strength and conditioning coach at the Southend-based Force Fitness Gym, has been impressed with the youngster and feels he has a bright future in the sport.

Hill said: “Getting into the Seven Nations is a massive achievement.

“Tyler is only 14 years old and he is certainly a great local talent.

“I think that by the time he reaches 17 or 18 he can get into the Olympics. His power movements are impressive every time and he is very good overall.”

Southend Diving member Tyler has made an impressive comeback since a horrific diving accident last year which required the teenager to have 17 staples in the back of his head after misjudging a dive off the three-metre board at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre.

The diver’s potential has not gone unnoticed and Tyler has been backed by his school.

The King Edmund School pupil has also been training with the likes of Tom Daley and Rio 2016 Olympic diving champions Jack Laugher and Chris Mears at Southend as Great Britain’s top diving stars were invited to a Team Tokyo Camp.

Tyler’s mum, Donna Humphreys, said: “I am so proud of Tyler for being picked for Great Britain for the Seven Nations.

“He will be in France for four weeks.

“Tyler is doing really well and he is on course for the European Championships.

“He loves competing alongside the likes of Tom Daley, Jack Laugher and Chris Mears.

“He is very laid-back and does not get fazed. Tyler wants to achieve a lot this year.”
