DANNY Buchan got off to the perfect start in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 series as he tops the leader board after an exemplary showing at Donington Park.

The 23-year-old Morello Racing man, formerly of Basildon, won two of three races and could have made it a hat-trick only to run wide in the final race of the weekend.

Buchan won the first race by more than 20 seconds, the second by just 0.046 seconds and was edged out by Richard Cooper in a fiercely contested third contest.

But he said he was pleased to pick up so many points on what he called his ‘bogey circuit’.

“It would have been nice to win all three races but Donington’s my bogey circuit so I’m chuffed to bits to come away with two firsts and a second,” he said.

“It’s never easy leading from the front and I ran so wide at the Melbourne Loop which allowed Coops to edge by.

“The new Kawasaki is working brilliantly so it’s great to have started the season strongly so I’ll keep building and hopefully we’ll be there at the end of the season.”

Meanwhile, it was an encouraging debut in the category for Benfleet’s Mason Law.

Law, 21, posted three top 10 finishes on his ZX-10RR Kawasaki, including a best placed finish of sixth - having initially had to overcome brake and traction problems.

“I must say I’m very happy how things are going with my new team and Kawasaki’s ZX-10RR has been great fun to ride all weekend,” he said.

“It was a new experience for me this weekend and I knew it wasn’t going to be easy.

“The Stock 1000 class is very physical, but the class to be in and I learned a lot.”

The next round is at Brands Hatch between April 14-17.
