THE Seevic Storm Academy shone at the AoC National Finals, winning gold and silver.

The rugby sevens side were able to triumph in their competition while the women’s football secured silver medals.

And head of rugby Danny Cleare was full of praise for his team’s terrific displays which saw them lose just once all weekend.

“The boys have really been a testament to the Academy this year,” said Cleare.

“In the lead up to the event everyone gave up their half-term to ensure we maintained the standard of rugby that we knew we needed to win the competition.

“The sevens team demonstrated huge amounts of commitment and desire throughout the competition but this was all helped by the teamwork shown in the weeks before.

“Not only was it the sevens team at training but the whole squad were there to push them and help ensure we were at our best.

“The weekend showed what hard work and a can-do attitude can achieve as the boys have made history as the first Seevic Storm Rugby team to ever win a National Title.”

The women’s football also impressed, winning silver medals in the competition which was held at Nottingham University.

And their success delighted Seevic’s head of sport Craig Davidson who felt a recent tour to America helped to bring the best out of the squad.

“The girl’s came into the AoC Sport National Finals on the back of a hugely successful tour to Baltimore,” said Davidson.

“I believe that not only did the tour bring the squad closer together but it also inspired the girls to work to a higher standard of play which was a big factor in the success of the weekend.

“The women’s football academy at Seevic is rapidly developing into one of the best in Essex and the East region and I am grateful to be a part of it.

“The AoC Sport National Finals proved to be one of our most successful ever.

“To come home with a gold and silver is a real testament to the level of the programme we offer.”

Seevic nearly had three medals with the women’s basketball team narrowly missing out on third place to finish fourth and cross country runner Sinead Clark, 16, finishing in 12th place.

But the success could still continue for the Thundersley based college.

Their rugby and football academy will soon both be competing in the Essex Cup finals and the rugby academy have also impressed to make the final of the AoC Play-Offs title.
