CANVEY Island have set up an exciting pre-season schedule including matches against Gillingham and Belgian side Patro Eisden Maasmechelen.

The Gulls were relegated from the Ryman Premier League last season and will be looking for a strong start to the 2017/18 campaign.

That has been reflected in a tough pre-season programme, with matches against two National League South sides also on the agenda.

The Gills recently appointed former-manager Peter Taylor as Director of Football, with the ex-Canvey player helping to arrange a friendly against his old club on Saturday, July 29.

Taylor was also a key player in helping to secure a match against Belgian third tier side Patro Eisden Maasmechelen on Friday, July 21.

The club are managed by former-Belgian international Danny Boffin and play in the Belgian First Amateur Division.

Other matches scheduled are against Great Wakering Rovers (July 11), Chelmsford City (July 15), East Thurrock United (July 18), Cray Wanderers (August 1) and Greenwich Borough (August 5).

The club say there is the potential for additional friendlies to be added in the coming weeks.
