STEVE Tilson says his C&K Basildon Ladies side have their sights set on a top three finish following a convincing 5-0 win against Cardiff City.

The victory moved Basildon up to second in the table and led to Tilson readjusting his team’s targets.

“We started the season with the aim of finishing in the top six but we’ve had another look at it and we’re going for the top three now,” said the former Southend United manager.

“We’re at the half way point in the season now and we’re second in the table so it’s been a great start.

“The girls deserve a lot of credit because we only have a small squad but I feel as though that’s working in our favour at the moment because we’re keeping everyone happy.

“Things might change if we were to get a few injuries and there are obviously a lot of very difficult games ahead, starting with our next one away at West Ham.

“But we’re pleased with the way it’s going and want to try and keep that going now.”

And Tilson was also full of praise for C&K Basildon’s display against Cardiff.

“It was a really good pleasing performance,” said Tilson.

“We went with the wind in the first half and were 4-0 up by half-time which was great.

“We knew we need to dig in at the start of the second half and weather a bit of a storm but we did that well before adding a fifth so we were all really happy.”

Basildon started well and opened the scoring after just four minutes when Angela Addison teed up Amy Nash on the right and her well flighted cross found Jay Blackie who hit home.

With 20 minutes on the clock, C & K Basildon doubled their lead when Nash’s corner was met by the head of Angela Addison who nodded her 12th goal of the season into the back of the net.

Angela Addison then sent another effort against the crossbar before C&K made it 3-0 on the half hour mark when another corner from Nash was prodded home by Danica Revell. A fourth goal followed before half-time with Jay Blackie hitting home a fine 30 yard shot but, the wind causing havoc, the start of the second half was far more even.

However, C&K Basildon were not to be denied a fifth goal and it came in the 66th minute when a blocked attempted clearance fell to Angela Addison who weaved her way into the penalty area before scoring her second goal of the game with a powerful effort.
