HERE’S knockout news for sports fans – boxing legend Frank Bruno is coming to Rayleigh.

The former World Heavyweight Champion is visiting the town on Saturday to sign copies of his bestselling new book.

Bruno has decided to pop in to the town because his memoir, Let Me Be Frank, was penned here by local author Nick Owens.

Bruno said: “I am really excited about coming to Rayleigh and saying hello to lots of people. I’ve got many friends in Essex and I hope some will be able to pop down for a catch up.”

Bruno’s visit is particularly poignant because just five years ago he was at rock bottom after being sectioned and locked up in nearby Basildon Hospital.

He details his recovery in his new book as well as talking about the crusade he is on to raise awareness of mental ill-health.

Fans will get the chance to buy the book on Saturday and then have it signed by the man himself. National treasure Bruno will also pose for photos with fans.

Ghost-writer Owens, who lives in Rayleigh, said: “I am delighted that he has been able to find time to visit Rayleigh.

“I wrote a lot of the story here in the library so it is fitting Frank has decided to pop in and meet his fans.”

Bruno will be in Rayleigh from 11am to 1pm on Saturday at St George’s Estate Agents, Berry’s Arcade.
