C&K Basildon Ladies are out of the FAWPL League Cup after suffering an extra-time defeat to Charlton Athletic.

The visitors turned the game on its head following Angela Addison's first half goal and will now advance to the third round of the competition at C&K Basildon's expense.

Steve Tilson's side enjoyed good spells of possession in an eagerly-contested first half, which saw C&K Basildon involved in a competitive fixture for the first time since the festive break.

And C&K Basildon's pressure paid off just before half-time, as Addison acrobatically flicked home Zoe Rushen's clever free kick to give Tilson's charges the lead going into the interval.

Tilson was without a number of first team regulars against the FA Women's Premier League Southern Division leaders and handed a debut to development side goalkeeper Jamie-Lee Bamford.

But the hosts held their own and came close to going two goals to the good shortly after the break as Paige Wakefield saw her header, from another Rushen free kick, blocked.

That blocked effort proved pivotal as Charlton hit back moments later and found the equaliser through Charlotte Gurr.

Rushen nearly caught the visitors' goalkeeper off her goal-line, but the C&K Basildon captain's attempted lob went just over the crossbar.

Charlton thought they had won the game with the last kick of normal time as a Charley Clifford effort came thundering back off the crossbar.

The away side claimed the ball had crossed the line, but referee Kirsty Dowle waved away the appeals for a goal.

As a result, the encounter went to extra-time and Addison fired wide after cutting inside with the first chance of the additional 30 minutes.

Charlton's Clifford struck the post with an impressive 30 yard strike before Kit Graham hit the crossbar soon after, with Bamford rooted to the spot.

Graham scored the winner midway through the second half of extra-time with a 25 yard effort which beat Bamford.
