MASON Law will make his debut in the British Superbike Championship this season after signing a deal with Team WD40 Kawasaki.

The Benfleet rider will race a GR Motosport prepared ZX-10RR in the 2018 season, having worked with Kawasaki throughout his career.

In recent years, the 22-year-old has worked his way through the 250cc, Superstock 600, Supersport 600 and Superstock 1000cc classes on the tarmac with the Japanese manufacturer – before eventually arriving in the Blue Riband class with Brent Gladwin’s WD40 Kawasaki team for his maiden assault on the British Superbike Championship in 2018.

And Law, who claimed a win last year on a GR Motosport prepared ZX-10RR in Superstock trim, is now looking forward to making his premier class debut at Donington Park on Monday, April 2.

“First of all, it’s nice that I can remain within the GR Motosport family and also with Kawasaki UK for my first crack at the British Superbike Championship,” he said.

“I’ve come all the way from 65cc Motocross to British Superbike with Kawasaki, which is testament to my belief in their racing machinery and hopefully vice-versa. BSB is the pinnacle at British championship level racing, so we have to be realistic coming into my rookie season.

“I have a lot to learn but, on a positive note, the fundamentals of the ZX-10RR are just the same, and I’m confident that the experience I gleaned last season in the Superstock 1000 class will afford me a bit of a foot-up.”

And the former 250cc Junior Cup and Stock 600cc champion added he was relishing the step up in class.

“I’m not daunted by the challenge even though the series is packed with top class riders, but I’m not going to be disrespectful and make any rash predictions,” he said. “It’s an interesting project for both myself and everyone at GR Motosport and the WD40 Kawasaki British Superbike Team. In truth, we are all buzzing with excitement at the prospect of getting started.”

Mason will begin his 2018 testing programme in Spain in the coming weeks, before taking in the first official BSB test at Donington Park next month.

The Essex lad is currently working hard on his preparations, both on and off the track, with a number of commercial opportunities still available with the all-new BSB #55 and his WD40 Kawasaki Team.
