A DIVING talent of the future continued his meteoric rise by claiming three medals for Great Britain at the Eight Nations Championships in Norway.

Tyler Humphreys, 15, won gold in the 1m B Boys category before claiming individual silver in the 3m event.

And Tyler backed up that performance from the 3m board with victory in the 3m synchronised event alongside partner Ben Cutmore.

And his mother Donna Thompson said Tyler was in fine form ahead of the British Elite Junior Diving Championships in Plymouth at the start of April.

“Tyler had some really great results,” said Donna. “He has not actually had a great time on the 1m board recently but he beat his previous best by 13 points which is some achievement.

“He came home on Monday and told me that he was to be given the team trophy that GB won for his performances as well which is a nice touch.

“He loves the 3m event and he often does well on that. He dropped one of his dives which meant he got a silver but he is really pleased with that.

“The syncho result was a real surprise for us too. He was competing against a lot of the ‘A Boys’ who are all 16+ and are more experienced.

“Tyler and Ben have only been training together since February so to get a silver in that was a massive achievement.

“It bodes really well for the future and opens up more opportunities for them both.

“His coaches are over the moon with him.”

Tyler beat his personal best in the 1m event in Kristiansand by 13 points [386.70] with Sweden’s Elias Peterson in second, and British team-mate Cutmore in third.

The Shoebury prospect, who trains at London Diving, then competed in the 3m and 3m synchro events, the latter alongside Ben Cutmore, scoring a total of 264.45 - a higher score than many older competitors.

The result meant Tyler won half of Britain’s six medal haul in Scandinavia.

Following the competition in Plymouth, Tyler is heading to Germany to compete in the International Youth Diving Meet.

And Donna believes a good performance in Plymouth could lead to selection for the Junior European Championships in Finland at the end of June.

“If he can podium and get the points he needs he has a real good chance of selection,” she said.

“It will be for 12 days if he gets selected so we are hoping for a good run this weekend and we will go from there.”
