DAN Burzotta will be coming out of retirement to top the bill at the latest UWC fight night this weekend.

Burzotta - a former captain of Great Britain’s Ji-Jitsu team - enjoyed an incredibly successful career in the cage.

But the 43-year-old has now agreed to fight again and cannot wait to get back in action at Clements Hall this Saturday.

“I’m a fighter first and foremost and I’ll always put my neck on the line,” said Burzotta, who last fought in 2014.

“Whenever guys come here I spar with them and I’m always in good condition, but it’s the fighting I like.

“I enjoy the battle and to put me away you’ll have to kill me because I will not give up.

“I’ll keep going and that’s who I am, it’s what I’m good at too.”

Burzotta will be facing an opponent from Manchester this weekend.

And he will be getting back in the cage for a variety of reasons.

“A friend of mine is DJ Sammy Green, who does a lot of charity and he recently did a lot for a homeless man, getting him a flat and I wanted to help too,” said Burzotta.

“I’m doing the fight for him and HARP and it also meant I have to get in better shape again too.

“My children also said they wanted to see me fight one more time and after all this training I can’t wait to get back out there now.”

Fourteen other bouts will also be taking place on the UWC fight night, with a large number of the Westcliff-based Team Sure Grip gym in action against fighters from across Europe.

“We have a French team coming over, and a lot of them are soldiers,” said Burzotta.

“We also have people coming from Cyprus, Poland and Lithuania, but the guys here are in great shape so there will be some very good fights.”
