BASILDON born gymnast Alice Kinsealla said she was ‘speechless’ after winning gold at the Commonwealth Games.

The 17-year-old triumphed on the women’s beam with a score of 13.700.

And the success in Australia left Kinsella lost for words.

“I’m still quite speechless,” said Kinsella.

“I don’t really know what to say.

“I went out quite confident because I came second in qualifications.

“I thought if I go clean a medal was possible.

“But when I got the gold I didn’t know what to do.”

Kinsella beat fellow Team England competitor Kelly Simm and Australia’s Georgia-Rose Brown to top the podium at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre, on the Gold Coast.

The victory handed Kinsella her first gold medal of the Games and came after she had secured silver in the team final and bronze in the all around final.

And Kinsella cannot wait to celebrate her success.

“It has been hard but I am just going to go back now and eat as much as I can to celebrate!” said Kinsella.

“Pizza and brownies will be the best.

“It has been so hard to resist but I can go out and eat them now.

“I will probably only get a day to do it so I need to make the most of it.

“It means everything to me to have won gold too.

“I wanted to go out there, be confident and I stuck to the routine so I was expecting a medal but not gold – that was amazing.

“My mum doesn’t like flying but they will have been watching the TV and screaming and shouting.”

Kinsella is also the daughter of former footballer Mark who played for Charlton Athletic, Aston Villa and Republic of Ireland during his career.
