Boxer Buster Stevens will be looking to pack a punch in the biggest fight of his career this weekend, reports Joe Southwood.

The 19-year-old, from Canvey Island, will lock horns with Mace Ruegg when the young stars go head-to-head for the vacant Queensbury regional featherweight title at the Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey on Saturday.

Stevens will enter the ring brimming with confidence after stringing together an impressive run of victories that has seen him become the mandatory challenger for the title.

And the self proclaimed ‘Bad Boy’ believes his dreams will come true by winning his first title.

Stevens said: “Boxing for this title and winning it is my dream and there will be only one winner on Saturday night and that will be me.

“Some people just box as a hobby and for others like me it is their dream to become a professional.

“And this opportunity to win the title will help me achieve that dream.”

Standing in the way of Stevens recording the most important win of his career on Saturday night will be undefeated co-challenger Ruegg.

The 18-year-old, from Bournemouth, has yet to taste defeat in the competition since making his debut back in 2017.

But Stevens is confident he will be the man to derail his rival’s own title ambitions.

“I have been given the chance to prove my worth by fighting for this title and I won’t let this slip away from me now,” said Stevens.

“I’ve had huge support from all of my friends, family and all of the team that train me, including everyone in the team down at SS8 fight school on Canvey Island and my trainer Mick Cain.

“I’m coming to make a dent in the boxing world with yet another win as I push towards being the number one in my division.

“That’s my aim and I’ve been working as hard as I can to make sure it happens.

“I’ll be giving it everything I’ve got this weekend to get the victory I so badly want.”

The promising Stevens will face Ruegg on the undercard of the Queensbury Boxing League’s ‘Divide And Conquer’ promotion taking place this Saturday evening at the Epsom Downs Racecourse.
