STUART Bingham says he is taking nothing for granted ahead of his Snooker World Championships first round match against Jack Lisowski today.

Bingham - ranked 12 - gets his tournament underway against the 30th ranked Lisowski at the Crucible, amid a fine start for the underdogs in Sheffield.

Joe Perry defeated defending champion Mark Selby while Lyu Haotian saw off Marco Fu.

Ronnie O’Sullivan and Ali Carter only prevailed after lengthy matches against Stephen Maguire and Graeme Dott respectively, and Bingham is sure Lisowski will be up for the challenge.

“Walking out at the Crucible is a feeling you don’t get at any other tournament so everyone will be up for it,” said Bingham, who is from Bowers Gifford.

“I am relaxed but I am a bit edgy, as everyone will be, and I think this is the latest I’ve ever started in Sheffield.

“I have been watching it but, although to the general public it may appear these results are upsets, there is so little between the top 50 players nowadays.

“Joe’s result against Selby is the standout and it seemed Selby played a few bad shots and Joe got on top of him after that.

“The qualifiers are sharp and come into the tournament following three competitive matches in the last week.

“It can be a leveller. They are sharp from those matches.

“You need a few frames to get settled at the Crucible and if you are at 2-2 after the first four frames that isn’t bad.

“Everyone will miss balls and make hundreds but you have to stick in there and hopefully play well on the day.

“Jack will get support and I expect a tough game but practice is going well for me and I can’t wait to get out there now.”

Bingham begins his first session at 10am today, with the second session starting at 7pm.
