CASEY Stoney is set to be appointed the first manager of the Manchester United women’s team.
Stoney, who was born in Basildon, has impressed in the England coaching set-up since hanging up her boots in February.
The 36-year-old won 130 England caps and skippered Team GB at the 2012 London Olympics before being named as Phil Neville’s assistant manager with the national side.
United are expected to unveil Stoney when the club is announced as members of the inaugural FA Women’s Championship - the second tier of a restructured league system - this week.
Should Stoney - who grew up in Wickford - be appointed, it is likely that she will leave her role with England.
