SIXTEEN swimmers from Southend-on-Sea Swimming Club qualified to compete at the East Region BAGCAT and Youth Championships at the University of East Anglia 50 metre pool in Norwich.

Eight swimmers qualified to compete in the finals in a number of strokes and distances.

Zoe Bradley competed at the regional championships for the first time in the 10 years age group swimming PBs in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

Jessica Smoothy made the final of the 11 years 100 free with a personal best time.

Sophie Waymont recorded PBs in both the 800 and 1500 free collecting third and fourth places respectively in the 12 years age group.

Amelia Knowles had a busy championship, making the finals of the 100 and 200 fly, 100 and 200 back and 200 IM in the 13 years age group.

Knowles recorded a national qualifying time in the final of the 100 fly. Katie Willis recorded personal best times in the 100 breaststroke and 100 free in the 13 years age group. Billy Maynard competed in 100, 200 and 400 freestyle, 100 and 200 backstroke and the 200 IM in the 11 years age group.

Jack Carter made the finals of the 100 and 200 breaststroke and 200 IM in the 13 years age group. Reece Parker competed in the 100 free, 200 IM and 100 Fly in the 14 years age group.

At the Youth Championships excellent swims from Christian Parker, Charlie Pond Thompson, Charley Gallagher qualified them to competed in finals in their age groups after recording heat times in the top eight in the East Region.

Georgia Knowles and Jessica Clarke also competed at the championships.

Twenty four swimmers from the Southend squad competed at the Essex County Age Group Championships.

Southend finished in eighth position in the county. Christian Parker and Charlie Pond Thompson collected gold medals, with Jack Carter, Billy Maynard, Zoe Bradley and Amelia Knowles picking up silver. Verity Goodey won the top girl award after an excellent run at the championships performing well over all strokes and distances. Other finalists were Reece Parker, Tim Evans, Sophie Waymont, Katie Willis, Georgia Knowles, Jessica Clarke and Charley Gallagher.
