LULU Alexandra was crowned national figure skating champion — just 11 weeks after being run-over by a car!

She claimed the Exhibition and Free Skating titles, and came runner up in the Artistic category at the Adult British Figure Skating Championships, despite suffering injuries and memory loss when she was hurt as a pedestrian in a road accident in Leigh.

She won the highly-sought after Free Skating title with a comfortable two-point lead.

“This has been a difficult and emotional journey, both mentally and physically,” she said.

“The accident made everything difficult; not only were the physical injuries preventing me from training for the first few weeks, but the shock of it all meant I couldn’t concentrate on anything for very long, nor could I remember any new information.

“In the warm-up I completely forgot my routines and had to improvise a couple of times when I forgot the choreography, but hopefully the judges didn’t notice!”

Alexandra thanked her family and friends, her regular physio Nigel Kimpton and staff at Benfleet Physiotherapy for helping her with her remarkable recovery.

She said: “They have helped me get back on my feet and I’m just amazed I got to compete, let alone win. “My mum was there watching and it was just amazing when we heard the scores and that I’d won.

“I honestly didn’t expect it after having missed so much training due to the accident. “Thankfully, I’d trained really hard all year and that really paid off.”

Alexandra will return to competition at the Adult World Figure Skating Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany, later in the year.
