BENFLEET boxer Joe Honey was pleased as punch after proving a big hit Down Under.

The 23-year-old fighter has won the Victoria State 69kg novice championship.

Honey has spent time in Melbourne helping out in a gym while on a year-long round the world trip.

Former Canvey Amateur Boxing Club member Honey defeated opponent Craig Bell 9-4 to take the state title the day before he left Victoria on the next stage of his journey.

Honey started his travels in America before visiting Tahiti, New Zealand and Australia.

The welterweight, who won plenty of trophies while boxing with Canvey, will head to Malaysia before returning to the United Kingdom.
