SOUTH Essex pair Jessica Judd and Gemma Kersey will be part of what promises to be the race of the weekend at the British Indoor Championships in Sheffield.

The pair will both compete in a stacked 3,000m field that will include former World Championship 1,500m silver medallist Hannah England, the top two 3k runners from last year, Charlene Thomas and Josephine Moultrie, plus Emelia Gorecka who is fresh from wins at the Great Edinburgh Cross and the British Universities Championships.

It will be the first time Canvey’s Judd, 20, has raced 3,000m indoors for two years but she showed her form on the boards last month when she won the 1,500m at the Glasgow International.

Basildon AC’s Kersey, 23, beat Judd at the British Universities Cross-Country Championships two weeks ago and is also in good form.

She finished sixth in the same event last year.

Other south Essex athletes to take note of in Sheffield will be Canvey’s Dale Clutterbuck who has shown strong form over 800m this winter and will fancy his chances of ruffling a few feathers.

Rayleigh pole vaulter Liam Yarwood is in the form of his life and has been invited to compete in his first senior national championships. The Loughborough University student has cleared 5m twice this year already and will be looking to do so again in Sheffield.
