ABIGAIL Ives, Sinead Clark and Jodie Judd all took victories at the final Essex Cross-Country League fixture of the season - wins that also secured their league titles.

Basildon AC’s Ives has been a class apart in the under-13 girls category all season and her win at the final fixture at Colchester’s Garrison meant she was victorious in all four league races she took part in this winter.

With athletes having to race four out of five of the fixtures to figure in the league standings, Ives’s final win meant she was well clear of her rivals.

Ives’ team-mate Hollie Rex had a good run in the same race, finishing ninth overall.

Benfleet RC’s Sinead Clark stormed to victory in the under-17-20 women’s race, ensuring she took overall league glory.

Behind Clark on the day was Niamh Smith (Basildon AC) in second, a finish that ensured she ended the league series in third place.

Jemima Walker, also Basildon AC, was third (fourth in series) while the Basildon team sealed their overall league team title.

Southend AC pair Ellen Williams and Iona Doyle were eighth and 10th respectively in Colchester.

Judd’s league win was a fine achievement as the Canvey teenager topped the standings of the senior women’s category.

She emphatically won the final race of the season in Colchester with Clare Cornwell (Southend AC) finishing third.

Basildon pair Laura Brooks and Charlotte Bishop were fourth and seventh while Southend AC finished second team on the day.

Tracy English was eighth, Sarah Pennington 14th and Anne Jenkinson 16th.

Basildon AC, meanwhile, were promoted from division two in the senior women’s race.

Elsewhere on the final race of the season, Southend AC’s Joanna Rimmington was third in the under-15 girls race, sealing her third place overall in the series.

Benfleet’s Grace Goodall was seventh, Basildon AC’s Grace Burell eighth and Southend’s J Williamson ninth.

In the under-15 boys race, Southend AC’s Sam Norris ran well four fourth while in the under-17 men’s race Basildon’s Max Jones was fifth, Southend’s Matt Norris seventh and East Essex Tri’s Ben Goodwin 10th.

Though he did not run in the final race, Basildon AC’s Grant Webb had done all the hard work beforehand and was confirmed as the winner of the senior men’s league series.

Laindon’s Phoenix Striders won the men’s division two trophy.
