JACK Jones is hoping for a case of third time lucky when Westcliff head to Hertford in National Three London & SE tomorrow.

Westcliff have lost their opening two games of the new season after their promotion from London One North last term.

And Jones is keen to secure a return to winning ways this weekend. “Obviously two defeats at the start the season isn't what we wanted at all,” said the 22-year-old fly half.

“To come away with no points against Gravesend last weekend was even more disappointing, seeing as I felt we were the better team for the majority of the match.

“But there's no doubt what so ever that we can compete at this level and it's how we bounce back in the next couple of weeks that will be the biggest test both physically and mentally.”

Hertford have also lost both of their games this term and sit bottom of the table.

However, Jones is still expecting them to be tough opponents tomorrow.

“Hertford are always a decent outfit and know how to win games despite their start,” said Jones.

“Having also lost their first two games I feel it is even more important that we put pressure on them by performing the way we know we can.

“And I still have every confidence in the boys for this season.”

But Jones also knows Westcliff will need to work hard in order to come out on top.

And he has already noticed the main difference at this level of the game.

“The biggest difference in this league is the fact that any mistakes made, no matter how small they are, will be punished and unfortunately we have seen that thus far,” said Jones.

“Also it is the physicality and speed which always goes up a notch as you progress up the leagues and we’ve noticed that already too.”
