ROCHFORD Hundred made it back to back wins by beating Diss 30-26 in London Two North East.

Rochford fought hard to triumph in an entertaining encounter at Magnolia Road.

And their first team manager Graham Pratt was thrilled to come out on top.

“There were some good individual performances from a number of players but this was a team effort,” said Pratt.

“The players should now take confidence from that going into an Intermediate Cup match against Hampstead.”

Diss opened the scoring at the weekend with a converted try but Rochford hit back with winger Jon Baker touching down to cut the visitors’ lead to 7-5.

Moments later, Hundred went in front when centre Matt Stewart made an incisive break and winger Tom Dulieu was on hand to take the final pass to slip inside to score an excellent try which made it 10-7.

However, just before half time, the visitors forced play up to the Rochford line and some concentrated play was rewarded with a converted try which put Diss 14-10 in front at the break.

But, at the start of the second half, Rochford’s prop forward Scott Chivers bagged the game’s next try which Adam Ashton converted to put the hosts back in front at 15-14.

Ashton increased that lead with a penalty kick but the Norfolk side fought back and pushed the home team back on to their own line.

A strong set scrum then forced a Rochford error and the referee awarded Diss a penalty try to put them 21-20 in front.

Rochford were again able to hit back with centre Michael Stemp scoring a try to make it 25-21 but Diss fought back to score what appeared to be a heart breaking and match winning try.

Rochford were not to be denied though and, with four minutes left, a quick attack saw Stewart burst through to kick the ball ahead and charge through.

The bounce then went in his favour to secure a dramatic victory for his side.
