SOUTHEND Saxons’ surprise top try scorer Harry Hudson will be gunning for more glory when Worthing visit Warners Bridge in National Two South tomorrow.

Hudson has already equalled his tally from the whole of last season after touching down four times already this term.

And the number eight is making the most of his new found form.

“I have definitely been making sure that Mark Billings knows I have four times as many tries as him so far this season,” joked the Leigh based 21-year-old.

“It felt good to get two tries against Lydney last week and I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere near the top of the try scorers before.

“But, all jokes aside, it doesn’t really matter who gets the tries just as long as get the win.”

Southend returned to winning ways by beating Lydney 50-13 having lost five of their first six games of the season.

And Hudson was delighted to help get the Saxons back on track.

“It’s always in the back of your mind when the team’s not playing well but we’ve always been confident that things would fall in to place and thankfully it did last week,” said the former King John School and Seevic College student.

“We actually started slowly, going 8-0 down and it took a bit a bit of time for things to click but once they did click it was only us in it.

“Hopefully now with this result and another home game coming up against Worthing we can get back to back wins.”

Southend head in to the game sitting 12th in the table, with two wins from seven games.

The Saxons have full-back Iain Meads available again after he missed the win against Lydney while influential second row Daniel Legge could also back from the dislocated shoulder he suffered against Redruth on the opening day of the season.

Seventh placed Worthing also returned to winning ways last weekend, beating Bishop’s Stortford 24-22 having previously suffered two successive defeats.

Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 2.30pm.
