PROP forward Aston Bevans-Royston feels Southend Saxons have the strength in depth to triumph at Clifton tomorrow – despite their lengthy injury list.

The Saxons will be without Chris Vaughan, Tom Ashton, Craig Strachan, Kris Chesney, Iain Meads, Harry Branch and Chris Shields this weekend.

But Bevans-Royson is still backing Southend to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing 36-20 defeat to Cambridge.

“We will be stretched as the players we've lost are very good, “said the 24-year-old.

“However, having trained for months with the boys who will be replacing them I’m sure they will fit in seamlessly.

“There's good cover through the squad so I think we will be OK.”

Southend will also be heading in to the game looking to get another winning run going.

Saxons had triumphed in three successive games being seen off by Cambridge.

And Bevans-Royston, who scored a try in the reverse, remains frustrated to have lost.

“It was really disappointing to have our run come to an end, but it was the manner in which we lost that was more disappointing,” said the prop.

“After losing Tom Ashton within three minutes and Chris Vaughan before kick off to injury we seemed to lose our structure and our game plan which has been working really well in the previous weeks.

“We lacked a spark and that's down to all of us as players.”

The defeat pushed Southend down to 11th in the National Two South standings, two places lower than Clifton.

The Bristol based side have also been beaten in their last three games.

And Bevans-Royston is keen to heap further misery on the home-side.

“We’re all eager to get back to winning ways and make it four wins from five,” said the former Thurrock man.

“We lost this fixture last year by them scoring in the last play of the game so we owe ourselves a really strong performance.

“There will also be a chance for a few boys to step up and make a claim for a regular starting place so they will be fired up for the game.”

Southend are also attempting to complete the signing of Jy-mel Coleman in time for him to play this weekend.

Coleman has played rugby league for Hemel Stags and Keighley Cougars.

He is expected to line up at fly-half or at centre if he does switch codes.
