ROCHFORD Hundred made it seven wins from eight with a 32-27 triumph against Saffron Walden at Magnolia Road.

The victory kept Rochford third in the London Two North East standings.

And their latest win came after they had started the game at a furious pace.

As a result, winger Jon Baker bagged a fine individual try which was converted by Dan Needham to put the home-side 7-0 in front.

However, the visitors soon hit back with a penalty before they also added a converted try of their own to lead 10-7.

A well taken penalty from Needham then made it 10-10 before Rochford suffered a big injury blow just before the break with captain Sam Tape being forced off.

But, despite his departure, Rochford started the second half strongly and Matt Stewart scored a terrific try.

Moments later, Stewart was at it again as he finished off a fine move and Needham’s resulting conversion made it 22-10 in Rochford’s favour.

Saffron Walden continued to fight though as soon stormed back to score two tries of their own.

Both of the efforts were converted to put the visitors 24-22 in front but Rochford soon regained the lead with a penalty from Needham.

A penalty try soon made 32-24 before Walden replied with another penalty.

That set up an exciting final few minutes but Rochford were able to hang on to secure yet another victory.

Hundred will also be confident of keeping their good run going when they head to bottom of the table Old Cooperians on Saturday.
