JACKSON Wray celebrated becoming a father for the first time by scoring a try in Saracens’ convincing 78-7 win against London Welsh in the Premiership on Saturday.

The former King John School pupil bagged his side’s sixth try in the drubbing at the Allianz Park.

And Wray admitted it had been a ‘whirlwind’ week for his family after his partner gave birth to a baby girl, named Harper Lilly.

“It’s been a whirlwind week to be honest but it’s been a brilliant few days too,” said Wray, 24.

“I went to the hospital on the Sunday after our game against Sale Sharks and, then 36 hours later, our little daughter came along.

“The first part of the week was unbelievable and to now get a really good win and a try has made it even better.”

Wray, who first took up the sport when playing for Westcliff aged 14, has been a constant member of Saracens’ first team squad in recent seasons.

And he was again in fine form at the weekend as fourth-placed Saracens cruised past their struggling opponents, who have now lost all 10 of their matches this term.

Saracens ran home 11 tries against them in Saturday’s rout.

But Wray, who was speaking to the Saracens' website, insisted the game was far tougher than the scoreline suggested.

“It’s not as easy as it seems when you play in these types of games,” said Wray, whose family live in Hadleigh.

“You have to stay on track and you have to stay disciplined on the ball because it can be very easy to throw it around and start being a little bit loose.

“But we tried to stay as composed as possible and play in the structure we want to play.

“Our phase play and our ability to control the game was very good.

“It was unfortunate we let them in for a try but all in all it was a great day.”
