SAM Reynolds will be looking to continue his terrific try scoring form when Westcliff visit high-flying London Irish Wild Geese in National Three London & SE tomorrow.

The powerful number eight has touched down nine times in his last six outings to become the club’s top try scorer.

But Reynolds insists he has been helped massively by those around him.

“My try scoring has benefitted greatly from Westcliff’s driving maul,” said Reynolds.

“We have spent a lot of time working on it so it’s great to see it working.

“The wetter weather has also helped and most of the tries have been scored from about a metre out.”

Reynolds scored two more tries in last weekend’s 18-12 triumph against Tring and he has now touched down 14 times this season.

His efforts have helped Westcliff win three of their last four games to move up to 10th in the standings.

And the 24-year-old was delighted by the latest victory. “It was probably our most important game of the season to date so we’re delighted to have won,” said Reynolds.

“In winning, we also increased the gap between us and other relegation candidates.

“The heavy snow meant that neither team were able to play expansively and it became quite scrappy in the second half.

“That said, we managed the conditions well and came away with a much needed four points.”

Reynolds is now hoping for more of the same this weekend against London Irish Wild Geese.

But the Middlesex side are currently second in the standings, having won 13 of their 18 games and they look certain to provide a real test for Westcliff.

“They are a team that are at the top of the table for a reason,” said Reynolds.

“However, it was the same against Bury a couple of weeks ago and we managed to beat them so hopefully we can do the same on Saturday.

“Saying that though, I think it will be the games against the teams towards the bottom of the table that will decide our fate.

“But we go into every game believing we can win and we are looking to do that again on Saturday.”
