GREG Bannister is keen to get Westcliff flying again when they travel to Guernsey in National Three London & SE tomorrow.

Westcliff slipped back down to 11th in the table, one place and three points above the relegation zone, following last Saturday’s disappointing 21-17 defeat to fellow strugglers CS Rugby 1863.

And Bannister is now desperate for Westcliff to bounce back at bottom of the table Guernsey this weekend.

“This game’s importance is huge now and losing last week made it even bigger,” said the former King John School pupil.

“It’s going to be a tough game as all games are in this league but we want to go over there and put our best performance in.

“If we do that then I’m confident we can come away with the win.”

Westcliff also face the prospect of having to fly to the game from Gatwick Airport.

But Bannister insists it will still be business as usual.

“It's about a 45 minute plane journey over there so that will be different but as soon as we land it will just be like our normal match day preparation,” said the youngster.

“We also want to make sure bounce back from last weekend’s game which was very frustrating.

“We didn’t play well and we really let ourselves down but we can’t afford to dwell on it too much.”

Westcliff will instead be focused on making sure they do not repeat the mistakes they made against CS Rugby 1863.

And Bannister, who has lined up at fly-half in recent weeks, is demanding an improved performance.

“We didn’t convert the chances we had in the game and we can’t afford to do that again,” he stressed.

“I think as a team we really need a big performance so I’m hoping we can produce one this weekend.”
