ROCHFORD Hundred ended a frustrating fortnight by getting back to winning ways with a 25-21 triumph against bottom of the table Old Cooperians at Magnolia Road.

Rochford had suffered a painful last gasp defeat to Campion before seeing their scheduled trip to Saffron Walden washed out.

But sixth placed Hundred suffered no such problems at the weekend to get their London Two North East season back on track.

Old Cooperians put up a good fight though and took the lead with an early converted try before Rochford could settle into any real rhythm.

Hundred were also not helped by a yellow card shown to scrum half Brett Smith but soon got back into the game when impressive centre Gavin Tusini charged through to score.

Moments later, the returning Smith was on hand to put the hosts ahead with his 12th try of the season.

Matt Stewart added the extras and Rochford maintained their 15-7 lead up until half-time.

The home-side remained on top at the start of the second period and Cooperians began to fall foul of the referee.

They conceded territory and, in due course, yellow cards also disrupted their play.

Rochford soon took full advantage with Sam Tape diving through to score a try to make it 20-7 before more good play resulted in the ball being played wide to Sam Edwards who sped over for a well worked try which also secured a try scoring bonus point.

At 25 -7 and, with only 15 minutes to go, the home team should have been out of sight but some slack play saw the Upminster side fight back to score two late tries, both of which were converted to bring them back to within four points of their hosts.

However, Rochford, on this occasion, were able to hold out to gain a well deserved victory.
