FIT-AGAIN Harry Branch will be out to make it three wins in a row since his return from injury when Southend Saxons head to Old Elthamians in National Two South tomorrow.

The 21-year-old scrum half ended a 10 week spell on the sidelines with an ankle problem by starting Southend’s vital victories against Dorking and Clifton.

And he will now be bidding for more of the same this weekend as Saxons attempt to move further clear of the relegation zone.

“I had been injured for around about eight to 10 weeks with my ankles so to be back playing again feels fantastic, especially as we’ve won both games too,” said the former King John School pupil.

“It's was horrid not being able to play alongside the boys for that amount of time and I'm not someone's that's good with being injured”

“I'm sure the physio staff have probably been getting annoyed with my moaning so they’re probably glad I’m back playing too!”

Last time out, Southend saw off Clifton 36-18 at Warners Bridge.

And Branch was full of praise for the Saxons’ performance.

“The game against Clifton at the weekend was one of our best displays at home this year,” said the Hadleigh based Branch.

“We scored some fantastic tries and it's nice to be back playing on a harder surface, even with dodgy ankles!”

The well deserved win moved Southend up to 11th in the league table, five points clear of the drop zone.

But Branch knows Saxons cannot afford to relax.

“It is now huge for us to win our next few games starting with Old Elthamian to really get ourselves away from the bottom end of the table,” said Branch.

“The confidence that we have in the group at the moment is really positive, we’re being very decisive with our playing style and sticking very well to our game plan.

“Last weekend showed what we can do together and it was great to do it in front of our fans.”

Southend will be hoping for more of the same against Old Elthamians who are currently ninth in the table.

But they have also won their last two games and Branch is expecting a stern test “I'm sure Old Elthamians will be a tough game this weekend as nearly all games are in our league,” said Branch.

“However, at the moment, we have a really dominant pack and some real pace in the backs so I feel we can get the result we want this weekend and come away with another win.”
