WESTCLIFF’S top try scorer Sam Reynolds believes they will need a bonus point victory against Barnes to avoid relegation on the final day of the National Three London & SE season tomorrow.

Westcliff are currently just one place above the bottom three on points difference.

And Reynolds, who has bagged 21 tries this season, feels Westcliff will have to win against their high flying visitors to ensure they stay up.

“In order to stay up, I think we will need to win on Saturday and probably with a try bonus point too,” said Reynolds.

“It’s extremely tight at the bottom, Civil Service were relegated at the weekend and it’s between four teams for the final two relegation places going in to the final day of the season.”

However, Westcliff face the toughest test out of all four teams fighting to stay up as they entertain second placed Barnes at the Gables.

Barnes are still in with a chance of winning the title and sit just three points behind league leaders Bury St Edmunds.

But Reynolds is certain Westcliff are more than capable of securing a shock success.

“Barnes beat the league leaders Bury St Edmunds on Saturday so it’s not going to be easy but we are fully capable of beating anyone in this league,” said the influential number eight.

“It is also nice that it is in our hands so we know what we need to do and, if we deliver, we will be in this league next year. “

Reynolds and his Westcliff team-mates will be kept updated on how their relegation rivals are performing throughout the afternoon which club chiefs checking Twitter for score-lines.

And Reynolds believes it would a massive achievement to avoid relegation.

“It would be huge for the club because we want to avoid perpetually yo-yoing from London One to National Three,” said Reynolds.

“We take pride in the fact that we are able to compete in the national leagues with players we have produced.

“Fourteen of the 18 players last Saturday came through our youth system which is fantastic.

“It also means we really will give it our all this weekend and are confident we can get the necessary points for survival. “

Tring who are level on 44 points with Westcliff host eighth placed Tonbridge Juddian tomorrow while Guernsey, who are one position above the Essex side, are at home to fifth placed Westcombe Park.

Second from bottom Amersham & Chiltern are also at home against sixth placed Hertford.
