ROCHFORD Hundred completed their London Two North East season with a disappointing 55-20 defeat at Saffron Walden.

The emphatic setback meant Rochford ended the campaign sitting sixth in the standings.

And Hundred’s first team manager Graham Pratt was frustrated to finish the league campaign in disappointing fashion.

“To the boys that made the difficult trip to play this last league game goes out a vote of thanks for their commitment and effort but unfortunately the performance was just not good enough to counteract Saffron Walden,” said Pratt.

“We know that we did not do ourselves justice on the day but we have one more game to go in the Essex Cup final where perhaps we can finish on a high after this frustrating and under achieving season.”

Saffron Walden, who finished the season in fourth, opened the scoring with an unconverted try before Rochford hit back with a penalty from Adam Ashton.

However, Saffron Walden replied with two more tries, one of which was converted before Rochford also touched down with Scott Horsburgh driving over.

Ashton added the extras to cut Saffron Walden’s lead but the home-side bagged another of their own to lead 24-10 at half-time.

Saffron Walden continued to pile on the pressure after the break, scoring four more tries and a penalty before Rochford rallied late on with scrum half Brett Smith scorching through for his 17th try of the season.

Winger Matthew White then also touched down to complete his own successful season.
