SOUTHEND Saxons’ director of rugby Chris Green has urged his side to remain positive in tomorrow’s do or die clash at Redruth.

Saxons need a point from the game to secure their National Two South status.

And Green believes the best way to do that is to make sure of a try scoring bonus point in their final outing of the season.

“If we get four tries then we get a bonus point and that guarantees we stay up,” said Green.

“Of course we want to win the game but we have to make sure we at least get that point we need so we will be playing attacking rugby.

“We won’t be going gung-ho too early on in the game but we know what we have to do and if we get the four tries then we can’t go down.”

Southend are currently one place and four points ahead of Lydney with one game to go.

But the Saxons boast a far superior points difference to Lydney and will therefore beat the drop by picking up just a single point in Cornwall.

However, Green knows Redruth will be tough opponents.

“Redruth is a tough place to go and play but we know what’s at stake and the lads are fired up for it,” said Green.

“I was disappointed we didn’t win against Bishop’s Stortford and it was tough to take losing by a point.

“But there were certainly positives from that game which we need to take into this weekend but there were things to learn from as well and we certainly need to be a bit more disciplined.”

Lydney will be looking to the heap the pressure on Southend by winning at already relegated Shelford.

And Saxons will be keeping tabs on the game.

“We will probably send someone to the Lydney match as well so we’re kept updated,” said Green.

“We definitely won’t be leaving anything to chance.”

Southend also have winger Mark Billings and fly-half Tom Ashton available again while prop forward Craig Strachan and winger Danny Cleare are both expected to start.
