THURROCK director of rugby Dean White was thrilled by his new-look side’s start to the season.

The T’s handed six summer signings their debuts in a 20-12 win at Harrow.

And White was delighted.

“I was very pleased with the overall performance of the squad,” said White.

“We had a number of new faces that haven't played together so it was pleasing to get off with a win.

“Harrow were a well drilled side and it took a great attacking focus to break them down.

“But our defence also held firm in the second half and we have done a lot of work there over the last few weeks, so that was a massive plus for us as well.”

Thurrock opened the scoring with a try from Dan Carey before a yellow card shown to Tom Pool left them with 14 men for the final 10 minutes of the first half.

But, when back to full strength after the break, Hagen Mumba touched down for a well worked try and a penalty from Jake Barrand increased Thurrock’s lead to 13-0.

Harrow replied with an unconverted try but the T’s were soon on top with Marcus Chapman scoring.

Barrand added the extras before they were again reduced to 14 men when James Flavin was sent to the sin bin.

Adding to Thurrock’s aggravation, Harrow were soon also awarded a penalty try.

But the T’s used their experience well to see out the closing stages and secure a well deserved win.
