IN-FORM Chris Vaughan will be bidding to help Southend Saxons topple National Two South leaders Taunton Titans at Warners Bridge tomorrow.

Vaughan has scored three tries in the four first games of the new season.

And the 26-year-old centre is keen to maintain his scoring form as Southend look to continue their encouraging start to the new campaign.

“So far it's been a very positive start, “said Vaughan.

“We have played some tough sides and got some good results so at the moment we are very pleased and we want to keep that going this weekend.”

Southend have been beaten just once in their first four games of the season and currently sit ninth in the standings.

However, Taunton have triumphed in all four of their outings, securing bonus points in every game.

But Vaughan is confident of being able to spring a surprise.

“Taunton are always a tough side to play but we usually beat them at home so hopefully we can again,” said the former King John School pupil.

“We will have to turn up mentally though because they can be very dangerous and it will be a long day if we don't.”

Southend will also be heading into the game on the back of a hard fought 29-25 win at Canterbury who were previously unbeaten.

And Vaughan hopes Saxons’ attacking style can now end another 100 per cent record.

“We are playing a more expansive and positive style of rugby and it seems to be working for us,” said Vaughan.

“That shows by the amount of tries we have scored so far.

“I’ve managed to get three so far which is pleasing as well.

“Danny Cleare has set them all up, which he hasn’t mentioned it at all!

“But hopefully we can get a few more tomorrow and get another good result.”

Southend will be boosted by the return of captain Mark Billings this weekend while influential back row Daniel Legge is also available.
