MIKE Stanley could be set for a sensational return to Southend Saxons, just weeks after lining up for Samoa in the Rugby World Cup.

Stanley had been set to sign for a Premiership club but Echosport understands he is now in discussions about heading back to Warners Bridge.

Stanley, who has enjoyed two previous spells with Southend, has been training with Chris Green’s side and could even be in the squad for Saturday’s clash with Barnes.

The 25-year-old, who grew up in Thurrock and can play at centre or fly-half, appeared twice for Samoa at the World Cup and scored nine points with his last appearance coming against South Africa.
