IAIN Meads insists Southend Saxons are not happy being a mid-table team this season.

The free-scoring full-back looks set to return for tomorrow’s National Two South match with Redingensians at Warners Bridge.

And Meads is desperate to help Southend secure the win to help them move up from eighth in the table.

“I think from outside the team people will be saying we should be happy with where we are in the table especially after last year when we only just avoided relegation,” said Meads.

“But the team, including myself, feel like we should be aiming higher and we are certainly not happy being a middle table team.”

Southend will now be looking to move closer to the teams above them with another win this weekend However, Meads believes Redingensians will be tough opponents, despite them sitting third from bottom in the standings.

“We are expecting another hard game tomorrow,” said the full-back, who tops Southend try scoring charts so far this season having touched down seven times.

“Redingsensians have a big pack so it's going to be a very physical affair.

“But, as we saw from last game (drawing at bottom of the table Launceston) it doesn't matter where the team are in the table it's always going to a tough game.”

Meads missed out on Saturday’s clash in Cornwall.

And he cannot wait to return to action this weekend.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back out there with the team and hopefully helping them get back to winning ways,” said Meads, the joint second highest try scorer in the division.

“It’s been a good start and I’m pleased to have seven tries already but I would like a couple more, just to make sure Harry Hudson isn’t top try scorer again this season!”

Southend also have winger Billy Driver available this weekend while Meads’ return is likely to see captain Mark Billings move back onto the wing.

However, centre Sonny Gay will again be missing with a fractured wrist.
