LOUIE Marshall bagged his first try of the season as Rochford Hundred saw off South Woodham Ferrers 28-18.

The 20-year-old touched down to help ensure Rochford got back to winning ways at Magnolia Road.

And the winger was thrilled to help Hundred pick up a much-needed victory.

“The win was extremely pleasing, especially after the terrible performance we had last week against Saffron Walden,” said Marshall.

“We owed it to ourselves to give the game all we had in order to put last week behind us and prove to ourselves it's was just a bad week.

“I think we did that too because everyone had a great game and although there were a few moments where we seemed to fall asleep, we got the job done and came away with a good win.

The victory moved Rochford up to sixth in the London Two North East standings. Marshall now hopes the team can start to impress on a more regular basis.

“I think our inconsistency so far has been mainly due to a few injuries we have had,” said the youngster from Thorpe Bay.

“We haven’t consistently been able to put the same side out and some players have had to play in positions they are not used to playing in.

“But near enough everyone was available to play on Saturday and hopefully it can stay that way for the rest of the season to help us pick up more wins.”

Marshall also wants to be scoring tries on a more regular basis.

“I was hoping my first try would come a lot earlier,” he said. “Hopefully this has opened the floodgates for many more now.”

Rochford went behind to an early Woodham penalty at the weekend but raced back with a try from classy scrum-half Ricki Gould, converted by Scott Horsburgh.

Moments later, Rochford went further in front with a try from Marshall which was converted by Horsburgh to make it 14-3 before Woodham hit back with another penalty just before the break.

At the start of the second half, Tom Corbet bagged Rochford’s third try of the afternoon and Horsburgh again added the extras.

Woodham rallied with a converted try which cut Hundred’s lead to 21-13 but Matthew White soon touched down for a try that Horsburgh converted to make sure of the victory, despite a late try from Woodham.
