DYLAN Day-White hopes to help Southend Saxons spring a surprise at table-topping Old Albanians tomorrow.

Saxons, who are 11th in the National Two South standings, have lost five of their last six games.

But Day-White is still looking forward to coming head to head with the league leaders.

“It’s going to be a challenge without a doubt but it’s one that we are going to whole heartedly throw ourselves into,” said the 20-year-old.

“We are expecting a tough game as they are a good side but I certainly don't there is any extra pressure playing against them because they’re top of league.

“In fact, if anything it gives us a license to play some exciting rugby which recently we haven't been doing.”

Last time out, Southend were seen off 21-10 a home to Redruth.

But the game again saw Day-White start at hooker for the second clash in succession.

And the youngster is relishing his first ever role in the starting line-up.

“I've had to bide my time to get a first team start so now that it's come it's a really good feeling,” said Day-White, who has been with Southend for three seasons.

“It's great to be out there with the boys and in both of the last two games I feel we've really put in a lot of effort.

“We’ve played some good rugby but we are making too many mistakes and not capitalising on our opportunities which shows in the results.”

The defeats have seen Southend slip to within four points of the relegation zone.

And Day-White is desperate for Saxons to soon get back on track.

“It's really important for us to start winning again,” he said.

“We set our own standards and we're currently not living up to them.

“The team are eager and really positive and we have been working hard so the results will hopefully soon start going out way.”
