WESTCLIFF’S director of rugby Nick Sigwart wants Guernsey to have a wasted trip to Essex this weekend.

Westcliff host the Channel Islanders at the Gables in National Three London & SE tomorrow.

And Westcliff, who have lost their last four games, will be desperate to get back to winning ways as they look to boost their survival hopes.

“Guernsey usually bring a physically imposing team on their travels but we enjoy the battles that we have with them,” said Sigwart.

“We will be looking to get stuck into them early on and try and take advantage of the long trip that they have had.”

Westcliff head into the clash third from bottom in the standings.

Sigwart’s side now also sit nine points from safety following last weekend’s 43-10 defeat at Tonbridge Juddian.

And the coach is keen for the players to give their all against sixth placed Guernsey as they look to close the gap on the teams above them in the table.

“We know we have to throw everything we have at all of our remaining games,” said Sigwart.

“It seems like we have been saying the same thing every week but we have been playing well, particularly in attack but not quite playing well enough in defence.

“We know that if we maintain our defence for 80 minutes we will pick up wins and points which is obviously what we want to start doing.”

But Sigwart also believes Westcliff can take heart from how they worked their way out of trouble towards the end of the previous campaign.

“This season has mirrored last season in many ways so we are looking to that for inspiration when we claimed some big scalps later on,” said Sigwart.

“We know from experience that anything is possible in this league and that also helps us.”

Westcliff hope to welcome back winger Jon Sigwart and full-back Andy Roskams this weekend while scrum half Harry Branch will make his home debut after returning to the club from Southend.
