SOUTHEND Saxons have completed the signing of prolific winger Reuben Haile.

The 25-year-old topped the National Two South try scoring charts with Taunton just two seasons ago.

And, having recently returned from playing in Australia, Haile is pleased to be teaming up with the Saxons.

“I’ve played against Southend a few times in the past so I know they’re a good side and I’m happy to be coming here,” said Haile, who will make his debut in tomorrow’s clash against Worthing at Warners Bridge.

“I know they’ve been struggling a little bit just recently but I’m looking forward to the games we have coming up.

“Hopefully I can score a few tries to help the team out as well because that’s what I’m good at.”

Haile will be travelling from Gloucester to team up with Southend and is keen to continue his fine try scoring record.

The winger bagged 29 tries in 30 games when becoming the league’s top scorer and touched down a further 16 times in far less appearances the following season.

And he is confident of continuing his fine scoring record with Southend.

“Hopefully I’ll get over the white-wash a couple of times at the weekend and it’s a game I’m really looking forward to,” said Haile, who has also played for Hartpury College.

“When I came back from playing in Australia I wanted to sort out playing for a club over here again and my mate Sam Arnott, who has also played for Southend in the past, put me in contact with Chris Green.

“It’s quite a long way to travel every week but I don’t mind doing it because I’m just happy to be back playing again.”

Southend, who fell into the relegation zone after suffering a 50-7 at Taunton last weekend, have also signed second row Ryan Kirkbride in time for him to figure tomorrow.

Saxons are also expected to welcome back winger Danny Cleare and back row Sam Fombo while top try scorer Harry Hudson, who plays at number eight, could also return.
