SCRUM-HALF Jack Daly insists Southend Saxons will be heading to Clifton with renewed confidence tomorrow.

Saxons ended a run of six successive defeats with a 25-10 win against Worthing last weekend.

And Daly, who created all three of Southend’s tries in the victory, is now keen to secure more of the same on Saturday.

“I think the win has given us the little confidence boost which we needed,” said the 21-year-old.

“The new lads that have come in made an impact and the boys back from injury contributed massively to help us get the win.

“We were all very happy with the result and our overall team performance.

“We executed our game plan well and started playing to our potential again.

“It was a must win game for us and the team showed real character and delivered but we need more of the same tomorrow now.”

The victory moved Southend out of the relegation and up to 13th in the National Two South standings.

And Daly was delighted to play a prominent part in the victory.

“It had been frustrating the previous couple of weeks but it was nice to have a platform last week to be able to play how I want to play,” said scrum half.

“It was nice to help the team get the vital win but we need more of them now.”

Daly hopes the first of those can came against seventh placed Clifton who have lost five of their last six games.

But he is still expecting another difficult afternoon.

“You’re always in for a tough game against Clifton and they are a decent side who are going quite well this season,” said Daly.

“But we believe if we play like we did last week we can get something out of the game.”

Southend, who drew with Clifton 34-34 at Warners Bridge back in October, have no new injury concerns this weekend.

However, top try scorer Harry Hudson is rated 50/50 with the ankle injury which has forced him to miss the last two matches.
