ED Hoadley believes it is make-or-break time for Southend Saxons’ survival hopes.

Saxons head to Redingensians tomorrow sitting second from bottom in the National Two South standings, five points from safety.

But scrum half Hoadley is desperate for Southend to narrow the gap with a vital victory this weekend.

“Saturday’s game is massive for us,” said the 22-year-old.

“This block of games we have coming up we’ve really targeted as a squad because we have to pick up some wins in the next few matches if we are going to stay up.

“We definitely believe that’s possible but we have to go out there and do it, starting with Southend.”

Saxons will also be heading into the game in good spirits after beating Launceston 19-13 in their previous outing.

Hoadley returned to the starting line-up for the victory against the Cornish team.

And he was thrilled to have helped Chris Green’s side pick up a much-needed win.

“It was a huge win for us,” said the former London Welsh scrum half.

“We knew it would be a game they would be targeting and they had taken a few teams by surprise in the weeks before playing us.

“But we also knew if we stuck to our structures and patterns we would get the job done, and that’s what we did in the end.

“We just need to keep focusing on ourselves and making sure we’re doing what we can and then the rest will sort itself out.”

Southend should also have full-back Iain Meads back this weekend from a groin problem that has kept him out since early January, while the influential Dan Legge and Sam Fombo are also likely to return.

However, prop forward Craig Strachan misses out with a broken nose, while Aston Bevans-Royston, Kris Chesney and Alan Barker are all suspended.
