ASTON Bevans-Royston feels Southend Saxons must win at Dorking tomorrow if they are to avoid relegation from National Two South.

The second from bottom Saxons head to Surrey nine points from safety with just five games to go.

And Bevans-Royston believes Southend cannot afford to slip up this weekend if they are to avoid relegation.

“We've had many important must win games this season but this is probably the biggest and most important of them all,” said the prop forward.

“There's no second chances after Saturday.

“Whether we like it or not the pressure is on us massively and we have to step up.

“If we win we really drag ourselves towards the teams above us but if we lose then the gap may just be too much.”

Dorking sit just one place and one point above Southend in the table.

And Bevans-Royston believes a succession of injuries is to blame for Saxons’ troubles this term.

“Injuries have caused us so many problems this season,” said Bevans-Royston.

“I think we've consistently had at least three or four key players injured from about a quarter of the way into the campaign. “With an ever changing group of players consistency is very hard to come by and that’s made it hard for us.”

As a result, Southend have been beaten in 10 of their last 12 games.

Their latest setback came against Redingensians a fortnight ago, in a game Bevans-Royston could only watch from the side-lines.

“Unfortunately I missed the game because of some confusion about an appeal on a yellow card from earlier in the season,” said the prop.

“Therefore I missed one game as I had received three yellow cards throughout the season and it was so hard to watch.

“We gave ourselves so much work to do by conceding three tries within such a small amount of time in the first half.

“But the way we came back and played in the second half was great.

“We really deserved to get a lot more from that game so that's always frustrating but we need to be at our best right from the start tomorrow.”

Bevans-Royston is now free to return for the game this weekend while influential number eight Harry Hudson and Dutch back row Krijn Twight are also expected to be in the squad after recovering from injury.
