EMILY Scott has expressed her delight at helping England’s women’s side win the Langford Sevens in Canada.

The Corringham-based Scott was in fine form as England beat New Zealand 31-14 in the final to claim their first Series Cup title since 2013.

And, with the Rio Olympics fast approaching, Scott was thrilled by the timely triumph.

“With the Olympics just months away, now it’s a really good time for us to be hitting our stride,” said Scott, who is also a member of Thurrock’s women’s side.

“This is the first time we’ve won a World Series tournament since 2013 and the first win that I have been involved with.

“They’re not easy to come by and this win is the culmination of months of hard work so it feels even sweeter that we were able to come out on top and play as well as we did.”

Scott also captained the side in their victory against Japan.

But she is refusing to take her place in the Olympic squad for granted.

“There are 24 of us in training, including two Welsh and one Scottish player but only 12 players will make the final squad that will be on the plane to the Olympics,” said Scott.

“I try not to let myself think too much about it as there’s a lot of competitions to go in the meantime so it’s important to keep grounded and focused on the next tournament we have coming up.

“I’ve got to take each day as it comes, but of course I’d love to be on the plane to Rio by the time August comes around.

“It would be an amazing achievement.”
