THURROCK started their London One North season with a 50-30 win against Chelmsford on Saturday.

T’s conceded 19 points in the final 14 minutes as the visitors refused to give in.

But Thurrock’s director of rugby Dean White was delighted to have triumphed on the opening day.

“We are very happy to get off the mark with a good home win,” said White.

“Chelmsford were a very determined side that just didn’t back down all day.

“We led the game 50-11 and shipped too many points at the end of the game.

“We were impressed with our attacking play and we scored some great tries.

“But we must stay focused for 80 minutes.”

Thurrock will again be looking to feature towards the top of the table this term.

And White is confident his side will be able to build on their high-scoring victory against Chelmsford.

“I can only see our side getting better over time,” said White.

“This team hadn’t played together before so to gel as quickly as we did is remarkable and shows the talent that we now have at Thurrock.

“We will be working on a few areas at training this week.

“But we are now really looking forward to our away game at Barking on Saturday now.”

Thurrock handed debut to five players against Chelmsford at the weekend and ran in an impressive eight tries.

Charlie Russo bagged a brace while Reece Durrance, Troy Michie, Trent White, Rhys Collins, Bradleigh Retigan and Jamie Hulse also touched down.

Tom Worsfold added five conversions to complete the scoring and help Thurrock get off to a successful start.
