THURROCK suffered their first defeat of the London One North season, losing 20-15 at home to high-flying Tring.

The T’s headed into the game on the back of two successive victories.

But, despite the defeat, Thurrock’s director of rugby Dean White was still happy with his team’s performance.

“We were disappointed that we didn’t get the result that we wanted,” said White.

“But I was pleased with the heart shown by our players who didn’t stop playing right up to the final whistle.

“Tring are tipped by many to be the team to beat this season and it’s comforting to think that we could have won this game.

“We played against a hard wind in the first half and managed it very well.

“Unfortunately we didn’t get enough control in the second period in order for us to apply the pressure but credit must also go to Tring for their second half performance.”

White is now keen for his side to regroup and improve before they face another of the league’s unbeaten teams - Chingford - this weekend.

“We have a few areas that we will be working on but the performance was there for most of the game,” said White.

“We now face a tough test on the road at Chingford who have started this season very well with three wins.

“But we are hoping to also have some of our injured players back in the team for this tough game.”

Thurrock now sit fifth in the standings.
